Chantal Ripol

Born in El Masnou (Barcelona) and a graduate in Fine Arts from the University of Barcelona, Chantal has been exhibiting in Spain, France, Luxemburg and Belgium since 1985. She now lives and works in Brussels and regularly exhibits at the Grand Sablon in Brussels.

 Her work is characterised by bright colours, references to the Mediterranean (where she grew up), a constant search for balance in form and composition, and a poetic sensibility. Classically trained, she was influenced from an early age by Cézanne, Cubism (Picasso and Juan Gris) and, above all, Matisse, whose motto was: "I dream of an art of balance, of purity, of tranquillity, without worrying or preoccupying subjects, which for any cerebral worker (...) is a soothing, a cerebral calming, something analogous to a good armchair that relieves him of physical fatigue. (Matisse).

Speaking about her work, Chantal says: "Paper pots and little boats have appeared in my work without me noticing, settling on my balconies, in my landscapes... They are childhood memories that have gradually found their way into my painting and are now part of my colourful universe. They remind me of the fragility of things, but also of the playful, refreshing side of childlike simplicity".

Chantal Ripol is mentioned in the Dictionnaire Piron and in the fifth edition of Artistes et Galeries. Her works are in many private collections.
