Rita Vlaeminck

Rita Vlaeminck (°1957) lives and works in Waregem. She attended Higher Education Painting in Ghent (BE) and was a painting teacher at the Municipal Art Academy of Tielt (BE) for 40 years.

About her work she says: "If I want to open my mind to creativity and inspiration, I need peace to allow it. Being able and daring to put aside daily worries, giving the mind the freedom to dream and let go of all the ballast, staring into the distance, being in nature, taking walks to recharge the batteries, opening the mind to creative ideas...

Painting has become a part of me. Observing, watching, seeing, storing and processing on a daily basis makes for a trained eye. The impulse to go from a subject to a painting is sometimes a small, captivating detail, which is then the trigger for me to depict and accentuate it.

When you're involved with something, it becomes part of you, and that's how you encounter the things you need to encounter, because you're open to them. It could be contemporary or non-contemporary art, an interesting article in the newspaper, a photograph, a text, a conversation, a TV programme, a museum, the internet, a book.”

Her favourite quote: "The true artist discovers the unusual, the extraordinary, even in the outwardly very ordinary." (H. Marsman)
